Hisense U6G – The best budget TV there is?
The Hisense U6G is the entry-level model of this year’s Hisense lineup and is already considered a very good choice for a small budget. Especially when it comes to picture quality, the U6G is hard to beat at the price, isn’t it? After all, the Chinese manufacturer is known for offering excellent value for money and the U6G is no exception.
Hisense also uses the Quantum Dot technology which is why the U6G is a QLED TV. The name ULED is Hisense’s own name and not a new technology.
The Hisense U6G comes in 50, 55, 65 and 75 inch sizes and is only available in the US and Canada. The differences are only in the dimming zones used, which are 32 for the 50 and 55 inch variants and 60 for the other two sizes.

Simple yet modern
The design of the Hisense U6G is modern yet simple. There are hardly any distractions while watching due to the thin frame, and the construction is also quite flat, which is why it can be mounted on the wall easily. Due to the narrow feet, the TV can wobble slightly.
The back is made of plastic and metal and offers a recess for neatly routing cables, although the competition has already offered better options here. Nevertheless, it is sufficient to stow the cables, whose connections are aligned to the side, so that a solid cable management is possible.
- Modern and simple design
- Narrow frame
- Small stand
- Wobbles slightly
- Cable management
The best image quality for a small price
The Hisense U6G can convince with a really good picture quality at a small price. The TV has a 10-bit VAVertical Alignment, type of LCD Panel panel, a contrast of 4750:1 and deep blacks. The Full Array Local Dimming is responsible for this and does a solid job. Here, it’s bigger brother, the Hisense U7G, can do a bit better, though. Nevertheless, content looks good on the device and the picture quality really stands out in this price range, especially in dark environments.
The TV also achieves a peak brightness of 750 nitsSI unit of luminance: 1 nit = 1 cd/m2 – The best way of measuring and comparing a TVs brightness and HDRHigh Dynamic Range – image/video with more dynamic range (contrast range) content looks really good thanks to the wide color gamut. Dolby VisionDynamic HDR-format with a color depth of up to 12 Bits and Mastering of up to 10,000 Nits and HDR10+License-free, dynamic HDR-format in competition with Dolby Vision are also both available to further optimize HDR content.
Only the narrow viewing angle has to be mentioned negatively here, since it unfortunately turns out very small, as is usual for VA panels. Beyond that, the TV handles reflections well, even if you should not expose it to direct light.
- 10 bit VA-Panel
- Contrast 4750:1
- Deep blacks
- Full Array Local Dimming
- Peak brightness 750 Nits
- Dolby Vision and HDR10+
- Narrow viewing angle
Solid Motion Handling
The motion handling of Hisense’s U6G is really good. Although the TV only has a 60 HzHertz is the derived SI-unit of frequency with 1Hz=1/s – When talking about TVs this means how many different pictures a TV can display in one second. panel, the low response time of 4 ms is convincing. Thus, fast movements can be displayed well without showing many blurs. Slower movements can lead to stutters, though, and the optional Black Frame InsertionProcess that inserts black “blank images” as intermediate images. This makes movements appear finer and clearer. feature that can reduce motion blur even more, darkens the picture a bit when enabled.
JudderInconsistent time frame due to the input frequency not mismatching the TV’s frequency (e.g. 24p via 60Hz) can be removed from most sources, but the TV cannot remove judder from sources that send movies in a 60Hz signal. The backlight flickers continuously at 960Hz, which is perceived by the human eye as continuous illumination.
- 60Hz panel
- Response time 4ms
- Black Frame Insertion
- Judder can't be removed from all sources
- Stutter
Great gaming experience with older consoles
The U6G is actually very good for gaming, but you have to keep in mind that this device does not have an HDMI 2.1 port and no 120Hz panel. Thus, the new PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles can be used, but not to their full potential (no 4K@120Hz).
Beyond that, features like a low input lag ~11ms, a solid motion handling, and the Auto Low Latency Mode that automatically switches the TV into game mode when the console is turned on and connected, are compelling. Unfortunately, VRRVariable Refresh Rate – synchronizes the display’s refresh rate with the output refresh rate of the graphics card is missing which is why you should rather stick to the older consoles.
- Input Lag ~11ms
- Repsonse Time 4ms
- ALLM
- No HDMI 2.1
- No VRR
Mediocre sound without any bass
As with all TVs, the sound is rather mediocre. The 2.1.1 channel speakers deliver a total power of 20 watts, which is sufficient for everyday use. Dialogs are reproduced clearly and distinctly, but the device lacks bass because it can hardly be generated due to the flat design. A soundbar is recommended to solve this problem. The TV also gets very loud but distortions can occur at very high volumes.
The U6G does not have an HDMI eARC port which is why DTSMulti-channel-sound-system (Surround Sound) competing with Dolby Digital and Dolby AtmosObject-based surround sound format with 3D-Sound from any direction can only be used via a normal ARC port.
- 2.1.1 speaker with 20W
- Clear dialogues
- Dolby Atmos and DTS
- No HDMI eARC
- Lacks bass
Smart, smarter, Hisense
The Hisense U6G is a good smart TV and offers everything you need. Thanks to the Android 10 operating system, the TV runs smoothly and much faster than the 2020 models. Furthermore, the Google Play Store offers all the apps and streaming services you need, although you have to deal with annoying ads.
The remote control serves its purpose and still has a numpad compared to the U8G’s remote control. If you prefer to use a voice assistant, you can use Google or Alexa, even though a third-party device is required for the latter.
- Android 10
- Smooth and fast
- Great app selection
- Remote control with numpad
- Voice assistants
- Google (integrated)
- Alexa
- Ads
A good price-performance-ratio
The U6G from Hisense is a really good TV at a low price. Of course, you have to lower your sights compared to more expensive products, but the TV can keep up well especially in terms of picture quality. The good contrast of 4750:1, as well as the deep blacks and a peak brightness of 755 nits make it a good candidate in dark environments. Unfortunately, the viewing angle is very small which is why the TV is not a good choice for a large family.
Gaming also gets its money’s worth, although you should focus on the older consoles since an HDMI 2.1 port is missing. However, the 60Hz panel, an input lag of 11ms and a response time of 4ms still make the U6G a solid gaming TV for PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.
The Hisense U6G clearly cannot compete with the high-end models. However, if you are on a small budget and focus on its solid picture quality, you will definitely be happy with the U6G.
- Picture quality
- Contrast and black uniformity
- Dolby Vision & HDR10+
- Reflection handling
- Price
- Small viewing angle
- No HDMI 2.1
