Hisense U8G – FALD 4K ULED TV with great value for money
The Hisense ULED U8G is the top model of the 2021 lineup from Hisense. The TV works with Quantum Dots and is therefore a QLED device. Thus, the name ULED does not refer to a new technology, but is merely a brand name of Hisense. Due to the high contrast ratio and the good Full Array Local Dimming feature, you receive a great picture quality. The maximum brightness and the high color space coverage also provide a great cinema experience. With an HDMI 2.1 port, FreeSync and a GSync compatibility, the TV is also ready for next-gen consoles.

The U8G has a timeless design
The Hisense U8G has a modern and timeless design. On its backside, it has a plastic panel that has been given a grid design. Due to the materials, the TV is not heavy and can be transported easily. The display has barely visible edges, which makes the picture look a bit bigger. Cable holders at the back ensure easy cable routing, so that the cables don’t hang loosely on the back wall.
The stands have been placed centrally. When you bump into the TV, it wobbles slightly, but otherwise it has a solid stand. By removing the feet, you can also place the TV well on the wall, giving it a great look.

Great Picture Quality due to a high contrast ratio
The ULED U8G from Hisense impresses with a great picture quality. The Chinese manufacturer’s ULED technology ensures great image quality. However, the name is slightly misleading because the TV uses conventional QLED technology.
It uses a 10 BitThe color depth is measured in Bit. 8 Bit stands for 28 different values for each color channel, for TVs those are red, green and blue. By combining the 3 rgb channels 28*28*28=16.777.216 colors are possible. HDR10 or the dynamic HDR formats work with 10 or even 12 Bit. VAVertical Alignment, type of LCD Panel panel, which is well known for a high contrast ratio and deep blacks. However, the viewing angle is limited with these displays, and the U8G is no exception. Unfortunately, the TV lacks an additional layer to widen the viewing angle.
Thanks to a high brightness value of up to 1600 Nits, the picture quality is really great even in bright surroundings. The contrast ratio is the main feature for a good picture quality in HDRHigh Dynamic Range – image/video with more dynamic range (contrast range). This value is quite high on the Hisense at 7900:1 due to the well implemented Full Array Local Dimming feature. The color space coverage is also very large, so the colors look vivid and realistic.
The Hisense U8G not only features HDR10+License-free, dynamic HDR-format in competition with Dolby Vision, but also Dolby VisionDynamic HDR-format with a color depth of up to 12 Bits and Mastering of up to 10,000 Nits. Therefore it can dynamically improve HDR content from scene to scene, which makes a huge difference!

Great Motion Handling - Without Judder
The 4K TV uses a 120Hz PanelThe panel is the actual screen of a television. There is different types of panels like OLED, LCD or Micro LED and different sub-types of LCD like VA or IPS. that shows an excellent motion handling. The very low response time of just ~4 ms ensures that hardly any motion blur is visible. However, stutters can occur in the content with a low frame rate during slow camera movements. The backlight flickers at 960 HzHertz is the derived SI-unit of frequency with 1Hz=1/s – When talking about TVs this means how many different pictures a TV can display in one second. and is thus almost flicker-free.
Judders can be removed for all native content and motion interpolationArtificial calculation of more frames than the source material has to offer @60 Hz content can be found as well. Only the black frame insertion feature is weakly developed. This feature inserts black frames between the images to further reduce motion blur. However, since the response time is very low, this is not very noticeable.

Ready for the latest consoles
Gaming on the Hisense U8G is simply great for every gamer. The all-round TV has all sorts of connections and extras, so every Gamers needs should be satisfied. An HDMI 2.1 port, G-SyncVariable Refresh Rate for Nvidia graphics cards and FreeSyncVariable Refresh Rate with AMD graphics cards or consoles are all there to help you get the most out of Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X. With an input lag of 15 ms, the TV isn’t as fast as others, though this number is still low enough that you’ll barely notice a delay between the input on the controller and movement on the screen.
The Auto Low Latency Mode of the device also detects when you start a game and automatically turns on the gaming features to keep the input lag as low as possible. The low response time also ensures that fast games like shooters or racing games can be played smoothly without too much motion blur.
As if that wasn’t enough, the TV has an analog video input. With this, retro consoles like the Nintendo 64 can also be connected. So you can spend a cozy evening with your friends and relive childhood memories. Only the viewing angle would be a slight deficit, since it is quite limited.

Sparse sound on the Hisense U8G
The biggest problem of the Hisense U8G is definitely the audio output. The 2.1.1 speakers with a power of 10 watts each ensure that dialogues can be heard clearly. However, almost no bass is audible and the balance between treble and midranges is also lacking. Therefore sound is not really the parade discipline of the U8G.
As a result it is recommended to add a soundbar to the TV. Thanks to the HDMI eARC connection, uncompressed Dolby AtmosObject-based surround sound format with 3D-Sound from any direction quality can be transmitted with a soundbar, so you can enjoy the Hisense U8G to the fullest. DTSMulti-channel-sound-system (Surround Sound) competing with Dolby Digital can also be played. Thus, the whole world of Soundbars and Hifi systems is open to you!

A Smart TV thanks to Android 10
The operating system of Hisense is still Android. Thus, the new Android 10 is also used in the 2021 model. The selection of apps is large and the operating system runs smoothly. You also find your way around very quickly as you navigate through the menus. Unfortunately, there are ads that cannot be disabled. Furthermore, the remote control has changed visually. It is now slimmer and has been given a matte gray finish. Furthermore, the buttons for fast access have been changed. Direct access for Youtube, Disney+, PrimeVideo, Netflix, peacock and tubi are now found on the remote.
The Hisense U8G can also be operated via voice control. The TV is compatible with Alexa and the Google voice assistant and can also be controlled via them. The Hisense U8G does not have a twin tuner, but at least the USB recording function is supported – but not TimeShift.

Great allround TV for Movies and Gaming
The Hisense U8G is an excellent all-round TV, with a high contrast ratio of 7900:1, a maximum brightness of up to 1600 nits and a well-developed Full Array Local Dimming Feature. The picture quality is great, especially HDR-Content looks fantastic. The large color gamut and Dolby Vision ensure rich and vivid colors, which represent the quality of the TV very well. However, the viewing angle is quite narrow due to the VA panel. Thus, you have to expect slight quality losses if you have a wide sitting area.
The excellent picture quality also contributes to a great gaming experience. Equipped with an HDMI 2.1 port, VRR, ALLM, FreeSync and a G-Sync compatibility, the next-gen consoles, namely the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, can be fully utilized, but not only the latest consoles can be used, since you can also play with retro consoles like the Super Nintendo or the PlayStation 2 on the TV thanks to the analog video input.
Only the sound quality leaves a lot to be desired. However, with the help of a Soundbar, this problem can be easily solved.
