The Samsung Neo QLED QN95A already has a comparatively high peak brightness. The local control of so-called dimming zones ensures a deep black, increases the precision in displaying image content and minimizes the halo effect especially in dark scenes. Depending on the size, the QN95B has more or less fields available on the panel. The 65-inch model, for example, has 792 individually dimmable areas.

With a peak luminance of up to 2200 nits, the Samsung Neo QLED QN95B is one of the brightest UHD TVs on the market and trumps its predecessor relatively clearly in this discipline. To generate these brightness peaks, Samsung uses a 14-bit HDR mapping under the marketing term Quantum HDR 2000. Together with a comprehensive set of features, this model leaves few wishes unfulfilled and offers a picture quality that is aimed at demanding buyers.

Good handling of reflections

The QN95B’s anti-reflective coating does as well as expected when displaying bright pictures. The QN95A also cuts a great figure in this area. On closer inspection, however, both models exhibit a rainbow cast that is particularly visible in dark scenes – a well-known drawback of glossy screen coatings.

Thanks to their exceptionally good brightness, both TVs are perfectly suited to do a good job even in a lot of ambient light and effectively counteract external light sources.

Not leading but good

Although both devices have a special coating that is supposed to make the picture still presentable even from larger angles, differences to OLED TVs become apparent from a certain degree in our comparison of the Samsung Neo QLED QN95A vs Samsung NEO QLED QN95B.

This manifests itself on the one hand in an overall darker picture and on the other hand in a visibly paler color saturation. A certain viewing angle stability is generally guaranteed, but it has to be subordinated to the quality of TVs that work with self-luminous pixels.

Massive contrast

With a high contrast ratio, both models can take some points in this category in our comparison of the Samsung Neo QLED QN95A vs Samsung NEO QLED QN95B. Edge areas make a decent impression thanks to mini-LED technology.

Even the 792 light zones of the QN95A – 720 in the case of the QN95B – cannot change the slight blooming. Combined with a slightly weaker black value, this is not enough for a quality on par with OLEDs.

A real strength

When it comes to HDR in our comparison of the Samsung Neo QLED QN95A vs Samsung NEO QLED QN95B, the true power of the backlit top-class models becomes apparent. Bright picture areas and corresponding details stand out more than sufficiently from the rest of the picture content and make a radiantly beautiful impression.

Clear path for debauched streaming

Both TVs in our comparison of the Samsung Neo QLED QN95A vs Samsung NEO QLED QN95B are made to work best in bright ambient light because they handle disturbing highlights and other light sources great due to the reflection behavior and the high peak luminance and always let you look at a sufficiently bright picture.

Of course, we also have to ask the quality question at this point and draw the parallel with OLED models. Yes, both the QN95A and QN95B put a decidedly bright result on the panel. However, the mini-LEDs cannot compete with the class of OLEDs.

Almost perfect for gaming

If you are a fan of digital gaming entertainment, you will be inundated with a bevy of gaming features that leave little room for improvement. This means that you will benefit from features like AMD FreeSync, G-Sync compatibility, a variable refresh rate and a short screen response time on both sides.

An extremely low input lag and a total of four HDMI 2.1 ports sensibly tie up this package. Nice to have, but currently not relevant for console gamers, are the 144 hertz that you can theoretically display on the QN95B. However, you will need a gaming computer that is capable of using this frequency at all.

Not quite uniform

One weakness of backlit TVs is their sometimes uneven illumination and thus favoring color differences in uniform surfaces. Both the QN95A and the QN95B are no exception in this regard and exhibit one or two inconsistencies.

This plays a role especially in the transmission of sporting events that are played on large playing surfaces. Motion handling is also handled – favored by a 120 hertz panel.

Extended equipment frame

While you still find Tizen version 6 in the QN95A, you already navigate through the redesign of the in-house operating system version 7 in the successor. Unfortunately, the software refresh did not exactly contribute to the overview and the restructured interface now looks rather cluttered. However, the extensive selection of applications has not changed negatively.

You can choose between Bixby, Alexa or Google Assistant for the voice assistants. Besides timeshift and a USB recording function, you also get a twin tuner, Apple Airplay, HDMI eARC, Dolby Atmos and the option to use a CI+ 1.4 card.

The real equipment highlight in our comparison of the Samsung Neo QLED QN95A vs Samsung NEO QLED QN95B and at the same time the unique selling point in the portfolio of the 4K top models is the so-called One Connect Box, which makes your cable management much easier. The removable connection box can be positioned freely in front of the TV and easily connected to the necessary devices on the back.

Our conclusion:
Bright mini LED against even brighter mini LED

Regardless of whether you choose the Samsung Neo QLED QN95A or the slightly brighter QN95B, both TVs generally provide a good picture, especially in bright rooms. This is ensured by numerous brightness zones that enable a more accurate reproduction of brightness ranges.

The brightness advantage is even stronger when you watch during the day. The good reflection behavior of both models rounds off the reproduction performance further. Console gamers will benefit from the extensive range of functions and the fast response with short input delays.

Samsung only owes us Dolby Vision at this point. If you are gaming on a PC, you can also make use of the 144 Hertz fast panel. If you want to finally put an end to your tangled cables, the One Connect Box is also more than a useful solution.
