Detailed facts: Samsung Q70R or Samsung Q80R

The Samsung Q70R is the most affordable "real" QLED. It has a VA panel that uses Full Array Local Dimming for deep black tones. In addition, contrast and brightness are sufficient to display HDR content. It's a fantastic choice for gaming, however, its big brother Q80R is better suited for wide viewing angles and bright rooms.
The Samsung Q80R is better than the Q70R for almost any application. Although the contrast is lower, this is due to a special layer that increases the viewing angle. It is suitable for both dark and bright rooms alike. Full Array Local Dimming is also better. Therefore it provides very good results for HDR, gaming, sports and movies.

Our conclusion: Affordable or sophisticated QLED?

A comparison between Samsung Q80R and Samsung Q70R is not easy. Despite the fact that the Samsung Q70R is a very good TV in almost all disciplines, the larger Q80R is a little better everywhere.

Both have Full Array Local Dimming, but the higher peak brightness means it can reproduce HDR content more impressively. In addition, the Q80R’s performance is better in bright rooms, as it is well received against a lot of ambient light. When it comes to gaming, both deliver a comparable, very good performance, which is due to the input lag and VRR through FreeSync.

In addition, the viewing angle is a bit wider, as the Samsung Q80R has an extra layer that allows this.
