The Samsung RU7100 is the most affordable Samsung TV of the year 2019. Its equipment corresponds to its low price: The RU7100 is a 4K TV without great bells and whistles. The 60 Hz VA panel provides good black and pleasant contrast, but the viewing angle is not very wide. However, the contrast is not sufficient for HDR content, which is no wonder considering the price.

The LG UM7300 is the same as the RU7100 in terms of price and features – but fundamentally different on a technical level. This TV is better suited for bright rooms, which is due to the IPS panel. The characteristics of these panels are far better reflection handling, higher brightness and a wider viewing angle. However, the performance suffers in dark rooms because black cannot be displayed with a lot of depth. As a result, HDR is just as poorly displayed.

VA panel or IPS panel?

This question can be answered according to your individual needs. In short, it depends on the room in which you want to use the TV. If your living room or bedroom is rather dark or you can darken it, then you should choose the Samsung RU7100. It doesn’t have to provide enough peak brightness to fight against direct sunlight or daylight. Black also looks much better in dark rooms. For the best experience you should sit directly in front of the TV.

If, on the other hand, your room is very bright and you like watching TV or playing games with several people, the LG UM7500 is the better choice. You don’t need the deepest black and higher brightness as well as a wide viewing angle are much more important.
