The new Samsung TU8000 is to be the improved version of the RU8000 from last year – while in reality, it is more like the Samsung RU7100. Both TVs have the same refresh rate, but the TU8000’s performance in dark rooms is better. In addition to the latest streaming services, it supports voice control via Google Assistant, Samsung Bixby and Amazon Alexa, as well as Apple AirPlay 2. Smart Home support is also available.

The Samsung RU7100 is the most affordable Samsung TV of 2019, and you won’t find any great extras here, much more is a rock solid base for newcomers to the 4K world. Compared to the TU8000, it offers a slightly inferior picture quality and its smart features are also less pronounced. The differences are to be forgiven by occasional users, as movies and games still look good – but are of course far surpassed by higher priced models.

Attention. The Samsung RU7100 is an older TV for which the database is not up to date. Therefore, the ratings may differ.

2020 vs 2019 – Does it always have to be the latest model?

Do I always need the latest tech? Do I have to keep with the Joneses? These are questions you should ask yourself when buying television, as the differences between the different TV generations are never insanely big. For this reason, we recommend that most readers who don’t need a lot of extra features should go for the RU7100 – if the price is right. The picture quality of the TU8000 is better, but you should only pay a forgivable surcharge for this. If the difference is small or equal, the new model is better. If not, the RU7100 still offers good quality at a low price.
