Although the Sony A90J gets brighter than the LG OLED G1, the G1 does better in terms of reflection behavior.
Both are also sufficient for the living room with a side window, and here both TVs perform better than many other OLEDs, because that is often the biggest shortcoming of this display technology.
Thus, you do not have to worry about reflections on both!
Anyone who has had the pleasure of an OLED TV will already know: TVs with an OLED panel have a phenomenal viewing angle!
There are no problems here, even when watching TV with the whole family or at the far corner of the sofa.
Since both TVs have an OLED panel and both LG and Sony have already gained a lot of experience with it, the picture quality with normal SDRStandard Dynamic Range – image/video with a conventional gamma curve (opposite: HDR) – “normal” videos material really only differs marginally from each other.
With HDRHigh Dynamic Range – image/video with more dynamic range (contrast range), a little more difference can be made out, but in my opinion it depends much more on what you do in HDR, but we’ll get to that in a moment.Β All in all, both OLEDs are a great option for HDR as well.
The more natural image processing of the A90J is slightly superior to that of the G1, although there may be personal preferences here. As a result, it still performs slightly better in movies and series.
When it comes to gaming, no one can currently hold a candle to LG’s OLEDs. The G1 lacks nothing here and every gamer gets their money’s worth. The A90J is definitely a great choice as well, but you will have to wait for the promised updates and be able to do without 2 HDMI 2.1 ports. Gamers on the PlayStation 5, on the other hand, will find nothing lacking in the A90J.
The response time as well as the input lag are extremely low in both devices, which means that every sport should run smoothly and especially fast. The great picture quality also ensures that sports shows are simply magnificent and no action is lost.
In addition, both feature HDMI eARC, which allows the transmission of uncompressed Dolby AtmosObject-based surround sound format with 3D-Sound from any direction if the appropriate hardware is available in the form of a soundbar or a HiFi system.
Both TVs come with the latest version of the respective operating system.
For unbiased users, the difference should simply not matter since both have the most popular streaming services and offer everything that is expected from new smart TVs.
Now we have all the details and it is obvious that the two OLEDs are not that different.
So we can simply say: if you want the gallery design or simply the best OLED for gaming, take the LG G1, the Sony A90J can’t keep up with it and LG is so far really exemplary in terms of gaming updates!
But if you want a TV for your home cinema with the best possible picture and sound quality for gripping blockbusters, then the A90J is the clear choice.
Maybe a quick word about the Playstation 5: It’s not guaranteed, but because it’s from the same manufacturer, you can bet that the A90J will support all the specifications that the Playstation delivers. That means, if the PS5 gets a variable refresh rateHertz is the derived SI-unit of frequency with 1Hz=1/s – When talking about TVs this means how many different pictures a TV can display in one second., then probably also the A90J. Then the A90J would be also gaming-technically, at least as far as this console is concerned, at least on the same level.
But I can’t guarantee that either, unfortunately.
