Samsung Q70T

Due to the VA panel used by the Q70T, it has a deep and even black with an excellent contrast ratio of 7100:1, giving it a great image quality in dark environments – despite the lack of local dimming. In bright surroundings, however, it is not really convincing, as neither its reflection handling nor its average brightness is sufficiently high. Its motion handling is average, which means that a certain amount of motion blur can be detected. Just like the NANO86, the Q70T is well equipped for next gen gaming. Both have a 120Hz display as well as a HDMI 2.1 interface which supports ALLM and VRR against screen tearing.

Due to the IPS panel, the NANO85 is well suited for use in bright surroundings and, unlike the Q70T, has a wide viewing angle. However, it produces a less good picture quality in a dark room, which is due to the low contrast ratio and the shallow black. As a result, black, which should actually be deep and even, looks rather grayish. Due to the lower response time of ~5ms its motion handling is better than that of the Q70T. Therefore it shows movements sharper especially in gaming and sports. Unfortunately the display of the NANO85 has the dirty screen effect.

Our conclusion:
The same old story: IPS vs VA Panel

The main difference between the two Korean TVs is probably the display used. The NANO85’s IPS panel is well suited for being used in bright rooms and also has a wide viewing angle. The Q70T’s VA panel is well suited for dark rooms and its colors blur already when viewed at a slight oblique angle. It is therefore important to consider the conditions under which you want to use the TV: Afternoon TV or gaming with several people is more likely to be on the NANO85 and movie nights or gaming sessions in the evening or at night with the Q70T.

Both TVs can be used very well when it comes to gaming, because they have, besides the HDMI 2.1 interface, all the features you need for a good gaming experience. Therefore, they can already take full advantage of the upcoming consoles – including the 4K resolution with 120Hz refresh rate.
