Detailed comparison: Samsung Q50R or Samsung Q60R

The Samsung Q50R is with 32 inches the smallest QLED on the market. It is therefore suitable as an additional monitor on the desk or for gaming with the console. While it has an optimal response time for gaming and a low input lag, some other features are missing, like VRR, local dimming or DTS. Moreover, it only has a 60Hz VA panel. So it is only suitable for connection to older consoles or the Play Station. A consequence of the Single Tuner is that USB recording (PVR) or timeshift is not possible.
The Samsung Q60R in the 43 inch version is the next closest related model from the QLED series to the Q50R. In this size, it also only has a 60Hz panel VA panel and doesn't offer FreeSync, but from 55 inches upwards, both changes. Therefore it has a dual tuner and a better contrast in all sizes.

Our conclusion: Similar models, but one clear winner

The Samsung Q50R and Samsung Q60R are on the same level in many respects, especially in terms of design and finish. The contrast is slightly better on the Q60R, but both have no local dimming, so that HDR content is relatively similar. Both the Q50R and Q60R have a 60Hz VA panel, so that the viewing angle is equally limited. However, this is much less disturbing with the Q60R due to its size. So if you’re looking for the perfect QLED for gaming, you won’t notice any big differences between these two models – except the size. But the Q60R scores slightly better in response time. It is also noticeably brighter and can remove judder.

All in all, the Q60R is in the leading position, also in terms of price, because despite the significant difference in size, both models cost almost the same. So, if you don’t have space problems in the living room, you should definitely choose the Samsung Q60R.
