The OLEDs flex their muscles especially in dark rooms. Here, the A80J is even a bit brighter than the C1, which can handle reflections in bright surroundings better.
Due to the wide viewing angles of both OLED panels, especially TV evenings with several people are no problem since the picture is still displayed well from different positions.
Both TVs deliver a very good SDRStandard Dynamic Range – image/video with a conventional gamma curve (opposite: HDR) – “normal” videos picture. The high upscaling values bring out the best possible picture quality for the normal TV experience and for old movies and series.
Both the C1 and the A80J have an infinite:1 contrast and show a brilliant picture thanks to HDR10HDR10 Media Profile – HDR with a color depth of 10 Bit in the Rec. 2020 colorspace and Dolby VisionDynamic HDR-format with a color depth of up to 12 Bits and Mastering of up to 10,000 Nits. In this area, the two rivals are on par. The Sony only gets minimally brighter than the LG.
If you like to watch movies and series, both TVs are a good choice, because they are well equipped and shine with their great picture. However, the Sony A80J presents the pictures a bit more naturally, which makes it a tad better than the LG C1 in this respect.
The LG C1 still has the lead in the gaming sector. With lower input lag, four HDMI 2.1 ports and VRRVariable Refresh Rate – synchronizes the display’s refresh rate with the output refresh rate of the graphics card support, it outshines the Sony. We particularly miss VRR on the A80J, which synchronizes current consoles and PCs better to avoid tearing. You still get a good picture while gaming with the Sony due to the low motion blur.
For sporting events with fast camera movements, both TVs are well equipped. With 120 HzHertz is the derived SI-unit of frequency with 1Hz=1/s – When talking about TVs this means how many different pictures a TV can display in one second. and an almost direct response time, soccer games or other fast sports can be followed very well.
Both TVs are equipped with all important features and hardly leave anything out. The two different operating systems provide access to all popular apps like Netflix or Amazon Prime. In addition, the common voice assistants are integrated and all important connections are available.
The LG OLED C1 and the Sony A80J impress with their great picture, good contrast and almost perfect features. The C1 is just ahead in gaming, but those who watch a lot of movies and series might prefer the A80J. However, the Sony has the disadvantage that it is a bit more expensive.
