Detailed comparison: Samsung Q60T or Samsung Q60R

The Samsung Q60T is the cheapest model in the QLED range from 2020, and unlike the Q60R, some features have improved and some have deteriorated: it has higher contrast and better black, as well as support for uncompressed Dolby Atmos. But there is no longer a variable refresh rate. The motion handling is also a bit worse. Furthermore, the smart features based on Tizen 5.5 are more mature.
The Samsung Q60R is the affordable entry into the 2019 QLED series, and is better suited for gamers than its younger brother because it has VRR. The motion handling is also a bit better. However, it has a lower contrast value, so that the picture is objectively a bit worse. It also doesn't support Dolby Atmos in comparison to the Q60T, which means fewer external sound options.

Our conclusion: New is better? Not in this case!

In terms of its scope, the new Samsung Q60T actually offers fewer features than its predecessor, the Q60R. This is especially noticeable in the variable refresh rate and motion handling. Although the Q60T has the theoretically higher contrast and a more uniform black, these marginal improvements can’t compensate for the lack of the above mentioned features. The availability of Dolby Atmos also makes little difference.

If you find the Q60T at a good price, you can go ahead and buy. However, if you find the Q60R at a better price point, you’ll get a device at least as good.
