USB is short for Universal Serial Bus and refers to a standard for transferring data and power between electronic devices and is an extremely common type of connection nowadays.
Different types with different transmission speeds are in use. These are:
- USB 1.0 offers a maximum data transfer rate of 12 Mbps
- USB 2.0 is 40 times faster than USB 1.0 and offers a maximum transfer rate of 480 Mbps
- USB 3.0 is 10 times faster than USB 2.0 and offers a maximum transfer rate of 5 Gbps
- USB 3.1 increases the maximum transfer rate to 10 Gbps
