Aspect ratio
In terms of television sets, aspect ratio refers to the proportion between the width and height of the screen. Here, this parameter can affect the display of image content. In particular, when displaying movies or TV shows recorded in a format other than that of the TV set.
Generally, different picture aspect ratis are common for TV devices:
- 4:3: The traditional aspect ratio for older TV sets.
- 16:9: A widescreen format most commonly used today
- 21:9: Used to show movies without black bars and is rarely found on TV devices today.
